Hội nghị Diên Hồng or Dien Hong Parade

“The Dien Hong Conference, held in 1284, was a referendum by the Emperor Tran Thanh Tong with all the senior representatives throughout the country, asking for a peace or war policy when Mongol forces invaded Vietnam for the 2nd time.

This conference was held in front of the Dien Hong Palace in December of 1284. The Dien Hong Conference did not discuss strategy or military tactics. It only had one goal: to fight or to withdraw.

The Dien Hong Conference is considered the first Democratic convention in the history of Vietnam. The elders may be regarded as the representatives of the people. After the conference, the elders were the ones who passed on the policy of the government to the people.”
