To the extended NOVAL-DC family,

VietFest is the major community event organized by NOVAL-DC, a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to professionally develop the next generation of Vietnamese American leaders and preserve and promote Vietnamese culture for current and future generations. The goal of VietFest is to have an annual interactive event where the local Vietnamese American community can celebrate our heritage while sharing it with the Greater DC/MD/VA community.

In the spirit of inclusion this year, we decided to take a big (and costly) step into the mainstream by holding VietFest at the Tysons Corner Mall, the 12th largest mall in America. Tysons Corner Mall is a wonderful public space, accessible by car or public transportation, where people of every background can come and enjoy the beauty of the Vietnamese American community’s culture, history, and people. In addition, we decided to take the bold step this year of making VietFest free of admission this year. Even though we rely on ticket sales to cover costs, we wanted to be more welcoming to new audiences and did not want financial considerations to hinder anyone from enjoying this event. Because of the location and the free admission, VietFest will be the first introduction to Vietnamese culture for thousands of people. This is a huge opportunity for both VietFest and for our Vietnamese American community to enter the American public consciousness and grow beyond a marginal community into a mainstream one.

VietFest cannot exist without the continual support of our sponsors, our volunteers, and most importantly YOU, a member of our community. We want to have VietFest at Tysons Corner Mall EVERY year. We want to keep VietFest FREE for all who want to enjoy Vietnamese culture but that will not be possible without your support. Please come out dressed in ao dai, volunteer, buy the items from our vendors and from the NOVAL-DC booth, and please donate either online at the link below or at the donation boxes that will be at the festival. Forty years ago, the first generation of Vietnamese Americans came here as refugees to start a new life and provide a future for their children. Let’s ensure VietFest is part of the Vietnamese American legacy we pass on to future generations.
Thank you for all your support!
